How many packages are in an Amazon Flex block? What drivers report
5 min read
Short answer: expect roughly 22 to 47 packages in a 3- to 4.5-hour block, delivered to about 27 to 40 stops, with 60 to more than 110 miles of driving. Amazon doesn’t publish package counts; these are what drivers report. Blocks are sized by time, not by packages, so a route with lots of driving gets fewer packages, and a dense one in town gets more.
How long are Amazon Flex blocks?
| Delivery type | Typical block (Amazon) |
|---|---|
| Amazon packages, from a delivery station | 1–6 hours, usually 3–6 |
| Blocks you schedule ahead | Usually 3–5 hours |
| Groceries (Fresh, Whole Foods) | 2–4 hours |
| Amazon Now | Under 1 hour |
Since April 2026 there are also one-hour Sub Same-Day blocks, and sometimes you’re offered a longer block after you check in for one.
What drivers report
Each row is one driver’s block in one area, so read it as a range, not an average.
| Block | Packages / stops | Pay | Miles, time | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 hours | About 40 packages | $89.50 | — | YouTube, Sep 2026 |
| 3.5 hours | 47 packages, 40 stops | $126 | — | YouTube, Apr 2025 |
| 3.5 hours | 22 packages | $72 | Early morning, Thanksgiving week | YouTube, Nov 2025 |
| 3.5 hours | About 46 packages | $105 | San Francisco Bay Area | CNBC, Jun 2019 |
| 4 hours | 38 stops | $116 | About 110 miles, nearly 5 hours | YouTube, Aug 2025 |
| 4.5 hours | 32 packages, 27 stops | $101.50 | Done in about 2.5 hours | YouTube, Jul 2023 |
Other drivers mention about 80 miles for a 4-hour block counted from home to home, and more than 100 miles on spread-out Sub Same-Day routes.
Why your block may hold more or fewer
A former Amazon station manager put it simply: routes are built to fill the hours of the block, so “if you have an area that requires you to drive further, then you will have less packages.” In practice:
- Density. Apartment complexes and tight subdivisions mean many packages per stop and short hops between them. Rural routes mean long drives and few packages.
- Time of day. Early-morning blocks can be light — one driver had 22 packages in a 3.5-hour block during Thanksgiving week.
- Delivery type. Grocery blocks carry fewer, bulkier orders, and one-hour blocks only a handful of packages.
- Your speed. The block is sized for an expected time, so a fast driver finishes early. On blocks without tips, Amazon pays the offer amount whether you finish early or late.
What a package actually pays
From the reports above, a package pays about $2.20 to $3.30 before your costs. But you pay for the car, and the miles make a big difference. Take the 4-hour block with 38 stops and about 110 miles:
- Gas for 110 miles is about $21, which leaves about $2.50 a stop.
- Counting wear on your car too (76 cents a mile, the IRS rate), the car costs about $84, which leaves about 85 cents a stop for nearly 5 hours of work.
The miles decide whether a block pays, more than the package count. Amazon’s instant offers show the estimated mileage before you accept — divide the pay by the miles and compare offers that way. We compare Flex with other delivery apps in How much do delivery drivers make per package after gas.
How to deliver more in the same block
- Organize before you drive. Number, sort and load packages in reverse stop order; searching for packages is the slowest part of any block. Here’s our step-by-step system.
- Check the order on the map. If the itinerary doubles back, a better order saves miles and minutes. A route planner such as MyWay Route Planner finds the shortest order for up to 15 stops for free and up to 200 on Pro, and opens each stop in Google Maps or Waze.
- Group building deliveries. Use the app’s Gather packages screen and carry one building’s packages in one trip.

How we checked
Block lengths come from Amazon Flex’s own pages (checked 2 October 2026); its FAQ says Amazon.com blocks are “typically 3–6 hours”. The package counts are single drivers’ reports on YouTube and in a 2019 CNBC ride-along, linked in the table; the station manager’s comment is from Quora. Across many drivers, Gridwise’s 2025 data puts the median Flex block at $85 and about 4 hours. Gas is counted at 19 cents a mile (US average $4.465 a gallon in late September 2026, at 23.5 mpg) and the whole car at 76 cents a mile, the IRS business rate from July 1, 2026. The per-stop figures are our calculation from the driver’s numbers.
