How many stops can you add in Google Maps, Apple Maps and Waze?
4 min read
Short answer: Google Maps takes 9 stops, Apple Maps 14 and Waze just one. None of them puts your stops in the best order: they drive them in the order you type. If you have more stops than that, or the order matters, a route planner app is the easier way.
The limits side by side
| App | Most stops on one route | Sorts your stops |
|---|---|---|
| Google Maps | 9 stops plus your start | No |
| Apple Maps | 14 stops | No |
| Waze | 1 stop before your destination | No |
| MyWay Route Planner | 15 stops free, 200 on Pro | Yes |
We make MyWay Route Planner. It’s in the table because it’s the kind of app people switch to when these limits get in the way.
Google Maps: 9 stops
You get 9 stops including your final destination, plus your starting point — on your phone and on a computer.
- Add stops: on your phone, get directions, then tap More (⋮) → Edit stops. On a computer, click Add destination.
- Order: you drag the stops into order yourself.
- Good to know: it works for driving, walking and cycling, not public transit, and you can’t send a multi-stop route from your computer to your phone.
More on this, and three ways around the limit: Google Maps more than 10 stops.
Apple Maps: 14 stops
- Add stops: get driving directions, tap Add Stop, and drag the stops into order before you tap Go. A new stop becomes your final destination until you move it.
- While driving: open the route card and tap Add Stop; that place becomes your next stop. In CarPlay, tap the arrival time, then Add Stop.
- Good to know: planning several stops in advance works for driving only, and Apple Maps won’t reorder them for you.
Waze: one stop
Waze lets you add a single stop on the way to your destination: tap the arrival time, then Add a stop. You can do it before you start or during the drive. It’s perfect for gas or coffee, not for a day of deliveries.
Which one should you use?
- Up to 9 stops in an order you already know: Google Maps.
- Up to 14 stops on an iPhone: Apple Maps.
- One quick stop on the way: Waze.
- More stops, stops that change every day, or stops from a list or spreadsheet: a route planner app.
A route planner doesn’t replace your navigation app. MyWay Route Planner, for example, puts up to 15 stops in the best order for free (up to 200 on Pro at $9.99 a month), then opens each stop in Google Maps, Waze, Apple Maps or HERE WeGo with one tap. FAQ
Which navigation app allows the most stops?
Of these three, Apple Maps, with 14 stops. Google Maps takes 9 plus your start, and Waze one.
Do Google Maps or Apple Maps find the shortest order?
No. Both drive your stops in the order you enter them.
Can I add multiple stops in Waze?
No, only one stop per route. For more, plan the route in Google Maps, Apple Maps or a route planner app; many route planners can open each stop in Waze.
How do I plan a route with 50 or 100 stops?
Use a route planner app. These navigation apps stop at 1 to 14 stops. A route planner takes your whole list, works out the order and sends you from one stop to the next.
How we checked
We read each company’s own help pages on 2 October 2026. Google’s help says: “You can add up to 9 stops, which includes the final destination.” Apple’s iPhone User Guide says up to 14 stops; when multi-stop routes arrived in iOS 16, Apple announced 15, so we go by the current guide. Waze’s help says: “You can only add one stop per route.” We found no official stop limit for Bing Maps or HERE WeGo, so they aren’t in the table.
